We have spent May and the first part of June in Mazatlan located in the state of Sinaloa on the Sea of Cortez. Mazatlan has historically been an industrial city with fishing as the primary industry. Tim, Nick and I came here about 20 years ago and I remember it being very small and quaint. At that time there was not much of a tourism industry. That has all changed! As we go around the city there is construction everywhere, high rise condos and tourist attractions are now common.

There is a beautiful 13 mile walkway along the sea called the Malecon, which we enjoy traversing. There are fantastic beaches with all types of waves, some even “surfable” 😊.
Our 2 adult children were here visiting for a couple of weeks and we spent that time “vacationing”.

After our big kids left, we have gotten into a more normal rhythm. A normal day includes some work, exploring our neighborhood, cooking, laundry, grocery shopping…everyday life. We truly enjoyed the feel of Mazatlan. The tourist in the city mostly are domestic so we really felt immersed in the culture and had lots of opportunities to practice our Spanish.
We had fantastic food, not sure we had a bad meal out! We ate a lot of tacos and drank a lot of agua fresca. We visited some museums, took a day trip to a local colonial city and spent several days on the beach.

We packed meals for a local church to serve to kids in the community, Nathan enjoyed the snacks after serving.
