As we have shared our plans with others, we have been asked about our purpose or mission as we travel. Quite honestly, Tim and I have been pretty selfish and our dear friend, Mark pointed out that we have a lot of “I”’s in our plans. As followers of Jesus Christ, we need to give Him Glory for early retirement and we had to find a purpose in our journey. A way to serve and love on others as we are called to do.
As Tim met with Mark and started brainstorming about our Spiritual Gifts, we realized we were not following the Lord’s leading. We needed to adjust our thinking and live our lives on mission for the Kingdom of the LORD. We both are passionate about marriage and missions.
When we were on the field, there were many times of frustration with the culture we were living in and times of loneliness and homesickness. We often wanted to talk to someone from our own culture who did not work for the same organization. Sometimes we wanted a meal that reminded us of home. Sometimes we needed someone to pray with us to be strong and courageous.
We hope to serve missionaries along the way on our journey, whatever that looks like! As we have prayed through our purpose, we realize loving on the body of Christ as we travel fits within our Spiritual Gifts and really gets us even more excited about our journey. Many thanks to Mark for holding us accountable and having the tough conversations with us. We are selfish sinners and always need the LORD’s forgiveness.
If you know of a missionary that needs some love, reach out to us and let us know where they are in the world and how we can reach out to them.
Would you please join us in praying for those we will meet in Mexico over the next several months? Also, if you would like to help us provide a meal or gift for M’s and their family, you can venmo us.
